A Note about The Bridge Program

What is the value of a humanities education for the working poor? There already exist many skill-based job training programs and remedial academic programs. The Bridge Program takes a different approach. It is designed to promote critical thinking, community awareness and empowerment. A key selection criterion for participants is community involvement. By developing critical analysis skills, Program students think, speak and write more effectively—enhancing their abilities to affect change and to set examples for others. Because Program students are active in their communities and neighborhoods, they stand to become more effective community leaders.
